Domini Forster EPK
Australian songwriter Domini Forster leads you through the dusk-lit corridors of her intricate song-stories, each scene intimate and lovelorn as tea-stained lace. Her distinctive voice shifts effortlessly from commanding call to whisper-close falsetto, earning her comparisons to the likes of Laura Marling and Joni Mitchell.
Forster’s most recent single Hard Love (released 14 February) was shortlisted for the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition and playlisted by Australian music institution RAGE. ABC Melbourne’s David Astle described the song as a ‘a mesmerising, ethereal piece of music'.
Beginning her career as a finalist in Triple J Unearthed High, Forster went on to make a strong impression on the Melbourne music scene in 2013 with her EP Little Dreamer produced by Tony Buchen (Montaigne, Thelma Plum). Her debut album Raven followed in 2017, earning her a 9/10 from Beat Magazine, features in the PBS Top 10 and RRR Soundscape, and the coveted Darebin Songwriter’s Award.
A chance encounter at a songwriting competition with celebrated Australian artist Lior proved to be a pivotal moment for Forster, leading to a string of national support tours. She soon joined Lior’s band as backing vocalist, and the pair discovered a vocal synergy that ultimately led them to embark on a duo collaboration project.
Lior & Domini released their EP Animal In Hiding in 2021, receiving 4.5-star reviews in The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald and extensive national coverage on ABC radio. The 60-show national launch tour included appearances at MONA, Port Fairy Folk Festival and Woodford Folk Festival.
‘If you find yourself thinking no two voices have melded quite as seamlessly since Simon & Garfunkel, you wouldn’t be far off the mark’ - Jessie Cunniffe, The SMH
Forster’s second solo album The Lonely will be released 20 June 2025. Produced by Lachlan Carrick (Gotye, Lior) and co-produced by Josh Barber (Gretta Ray, Gotye), the album was recorded in a converted 1860s chapel in Victoria’s goldfields region. Informed by her work at the intersection between music and mental health, the songs trace intimate stories of connection and disconnection, illuminating the many shades and patterns of loneliness that saturate our modern world. Together, the trio have captured the intimacy of Forster’s songs and expanded on them to create detailed filmic soundscapes.
